Hey folks, I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Jason and I'm father of 3 children, two of which have shown a lot of interest in RC of every kind. I of course enjoy the RC stuff as well, even though I'm nearly 42 😁.
Anyhow, in a different life when I was younger, I built real 4x4s and rock crawlers. My back is pretty well pooched from an accident when I was 26, so now rebuilding RC cars had kind of taken up that empty space from my old hobby. I own a small machine shop with a CNC VMC and also 3d printer and a well equipped metal fabrication shop. I don't get to run that stuff very often anymore due to my back, but in my spare time I do a lot of repair work on analog electronics, custom design and 3d cad.
I design and 3d print replacement parts that I can for the wrecks I pick up. I normally post my designs for free on thingiverse. I tried to post some pics earlier of some of my designs, but I need 10 posts to be allowed. I'm shamelessly introducing myself to help get me to that 10 post mark 😉
Thanks,
Jason

Thanks! My oldest is 13 and she shows minimal interest, but my middle child is 11 and she loves anything mechanical, not just RC. She drives a Traxxas T-maxx that I converted to electric. My son is my youngest, at 8, and he enjoys the hobby as well. He drives a fairly inexpensive generic Chinese car, which in all honesty seems to be tougher than anything else we've put together.
I've got 4 or 5 foam airplanes I've picked up. They rarely fly long before they go back on the healing shelf, but the kids would love to fly them, it's just been a free years since I had one together enough to fly.
I picked up a few boats in a marketplace box lot a few years ago, and I was surprised to see that the kids like to run those as well. I have a small pond here that they like to rip around on.
Right now we are in the process of building a outdoor racetrack for them. It's lots of hard work, but they are doing it and learning some good lessons and skills along the way.
Thanks for the welcome. Have a good day folks!
Sincerely,
Jason

I completely understand. I've been admin on forums in the past. The spam can be overwhelming. I'm not really worried about it, I'm just enough of a noob in the RC sport that I don't have a lot to contribute yet. I try to help with advice where I can, but I don't know enough to open my mouth here yet 😁
I'm just happy I've found something to tear them away from their electronics for a bit. It's gotten to be an epidemic with young people these days. I know I sound like an old codger, lol, and I consider myself to be a strict, but not overbearing parent, and I've still found it's not easy to get them out enjoying the summer.
Thank you for taking the time to chat. We took a quick break from building their race track. With any luck, by the time we are done I'll be able to post pictures to show you all their hard work! I'm extremely proud of the time they are putting in.
Thanks!
Jason

It's not just the kids spending all their time in space ( lol ) go out to eat and watch all the phones come out and everyone just texting and not talking . I'm some times surprised they even take time to EAT . MAN it's GREAT to be an OLD FART !!!! Red

Yes sir, lol. I'm guilty of it too on occasion, but a few years ago I made a conscious effort to stop viewing the kids activities/plays/vacations/etc through my phone's video camera and just start watching more in the moment. It makes a huge difference in enjoyment for all of us.
I'm pretty good about putting the screen down when we are doing the rare dinner out. We mostly do the old fashioned home cooked meals, but I no exactly what you're saying!
Have a good evening folks! We finished up the main path of the race track yesterday. Still need to finish some jumps and other fun stuff, but tomorrow we are going to pick up lumber. We are building a elevated platform on a central tree for reaching the track, and I promised them we'd do a second level treehouse. Busy day tomorrow!
Later,
Jason
