It's a Curtiss Challenger and it was a bad idea. They left out the center bearing a twin row radial normally has so the cylinder banks are close together. But it is still a twin row made of two 3 cylinder banks. Crank shaft life was not good.

Might as well sign me up, I sell plans as Golden Era Model Service. Doing more old timer types right now but I have a 1/4 scale Dart underway too, building it up from new laser cut parts to make sure they are right. Hi, Nigel.

Well since you asked you're in at No. 32! How about a shameless plug of your plan service URL?

I just checked it out nice! Do you have a guestimation on what the laser cut pack will run for the Aeronca LC and will you be offering pants and cowling as well? Vickers Jockey MKII is tempting too! You don't see those everyday. I plan on building a Playboy style Old Timer in the future but it will be a bit bigger and glow.

I'm with foodstick, those 3 will be a great way to make comparisons of different types of power plants. What type of finish will you be using? All the same or 3 different color schemes?

I've known Don for years. You gotta understand. He can't make up his mind. LOL

Don built my first Ace Taylorcraft, 20 years ago. He rebuilt it, too, twenty years ago.

I can break anything.

It doesn't have to be his best work.

Thanks, Mike. I will eventually do the laser cut parts for the LC but I have several other things to finish first. The wheel pants parts are all just flat sheets of ply and the cowl is pretty simple on the LC so I have never done fiberglass parts for them. I am building the Dart with laser cut parts and it is just about all framed up, and I am also in the final stages on an Airtronics Sagitta XC that I have made some changes to. It is up to putting in all the servos right now. I don't like to sell things that I have not flown and that makes me slow. I will be doing the Playboy in the original 80 inch size. What size are you thinking?

I was thinking in the original Playboy 80" size as a 3 channel though I wouldn't turn down ailerons. I built a FF airplane back in the mid 70s with the same style wing and just loved the look.

Mike, I (and others) have tried ailerons in the past and with the force arrangement of most old timer designs they are not very effective, The Playboy was originally designed with both single dihedral and polyhedral wings and I will do the plans that way. If you want to see what it will be like just look at the 36 inch version, as other than wood sizes the construction will be the same. The 36 inch is a faithful scale down, no part was left behind. The only substantial change is to the spars as the original design as on most free flights is understrength for R/C. All internal changes.

Your 36" in the full 80" size is what I had in mind. I was thinking if it had ailerons I would fix them Playboys don't them. While I have built polyhedral wings it wasn't a requirement for me but was still acceptable. Polyhedral wings are easy to convert to a single dihedral wing, isn't difficult if you have a preference.

I love the golden age aircraft. I am working on a 50cc gas powered design of an Aeronca LB.

I have very detailed plans for the LC in 1/3 scale that would work for that. Could have laser cut parts cut for it without too much more work. They include all of the tail and cowl variations for the LA to LC. I've never put the 1/3 scale plans on my website because I haven't built the prototype yet but I have been selling 1/4 scale plans for the LC for years. At one time I had the factory drawings on loan to me.
