Default RE: JET LEGEND VIPER BUILD THREAD

Anyone have a problem programming the JL brake valve?
I am trying to mix it with down elevator switched off when gear switch is up.
No matter how I program the mix the thing still activates with the gear up.
I've botched it by programming a curve that needs a lot of down to activate, that way as I am unlikely to use a lot of down whilst flying I won't waste any braking air.
Not ideal though.

It can be done Andi, there is a technique.

You have to really push the right hand tank forward and slightly up, then push the left tank rearwards and upwards from the rear, it will rotate, slide over the intake and you can then gently pull it out.

They HAVE to come out even if it's only for leak testing and it's easier to assemble the fittings, also you need to get the tank base plate out to feed the services under it neatly.

Hi all,
I had a very happy flight holiday with my friends on July 14,2012.
Here is our latest activities report from zhongshan city china.
My JL viper jet had more than 50 flights,No any troubles,it is still very great!
Btw,Sunday,in fact,do have an electronic fule valve for the turbine built in.
So don't worry about it,do not need install a manual shut off valve yourself.
Flight video: http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XNDI4ODA5NDky.html
Best regards
William

William,

Thanks, Good to know the Spark 120N comes with an electronic shut off valve inbuilt. Am really loving the simplicity of this turbine even more.
No mercy on the Viper in that video! Can see you're really hitting that bird hard and its taking it! That low pass shot with smoke on is something to keep the crowd cheering... gotta try that someday

Gary,

Might be able to help if i know your RX/Tx system. Am a specktrum/JR guy. Futaba? Nope sorry can't help. I had my viper setup on a JR 12x. My brake is on the right Flap lever. The gear switch is used to switch the nose wheel rudder control off while retracted. I had no requirement to turn the brakes off while retracted. If I wanted to, I would do a mix where the brake channel is mixed to the brake channel (yes no typo, mix brake to brake), then use the gear to switch it on/off as you like.

In your case, you will mix elevator to brake channel and use the gear to switch the mix on only when the gear is down. You could do the mix linear or expo as you wish. If am not missing something, this should be the logic. Try it out lets see. What Tx are you using by the way?

Sunday.

Sorry, that was stupid of me to omit that, new DX18.
I'm currently trying to set up as per your second paragraph but the valve refuses to switch off even though the gear switch is programmed to tell it to, even tried changing end points, sub trims etc to achieve that to no avail.

As I've run out of channels my nosegear is y'd to rudder so I can't switch it off but that's not a problem.

Thanks for your interest, I will try your brake to brake idea now.

Lucky you man... I still have the dx18 on back order till late Early August. You missed out the RX channels available to you. Is it at least up to 9?

As with the JR, what you need is the Combo Mixing, using the AND condition => the gear must be lowered before the mixing is possible. Check page 24 of the DX18 manual. I quote from the DX18 manual on page 24:

"Combo Mixing

Combination Mixing is available to create OR mixing where 2 conditions can be set, and if either condition occurs, the mix will be active. You can also create AND mixing where 2 conditions must be met to activate a mix. To use Combination Mixing, activate a mix as desired. Then in the switch selection, select Combo Sw. Select the Switch 1 as desired for the mix. Then select the position you would like the mix to be active in. (The mix will be active when the switch position block is filled in rather than empty.) Then select the Relation as desired, either INH, OR, or AND. Then select Switch 2 as desired. Next, select the switch modes where you would like the mix to be active. If the Relation is set to OR, the mix will be active if either of the ON positions (filled boxes for each switch position) is met by moving the switches into either position. If the Relation is set to AND, the mix will be active only when both switch position conditions are met.. There is a status indicator on the bottom of the Combo screen that shows the current status, either Inhibit or Active. Make sure the function is Active when desired and Inhibit when desired. Then select BACK to complete the program mix."

end of qoute-

Or to keep it really simple, use a lever on the right ( i chose right lever so I can use left hand on rudder and throttle while on taxi while right hand control barkes, so change if your mode is different) and mix brake to brake and use gear to swicth. But then if you can get the gear swicth to work with this mix, then it should work with the elevator to brake mix.

Sunday.

All understood. On my mix it works fine with servo's or Jet tronic valves so my mix is proven to work ok.

The problem is that when the switch goes to up or inhibit the valve in this case, the valve goes to full on instead of killing it no matter what I do.

I suspect its got something to do with the electronics in the JL valve system, are you using the JetLegend valves?

I'm going to play with the combo now!

Using a combo makes no difference, gear down works fine, gear up valve runs continuosly. I've got a headache now.

Yes, am using the JL electronic valves for both brakes and retract lines. Was pre-mounted and I just plugged in the cables to the channels I want.

Play with the combo lets see how its goes. You might also want to check out the DX18 thread in rcgroups (Already a 162 page thread!)

Gary, lets try a different approach. Assign the brake channel to a lever. mix brake to brake. use gear to activate (AND in mix). Am very sure what you want done is possible with the DX18, we just have to figure out how....update us with your findings as you test.

I so wish am home where my Tx is to simulate the problem and figure out a solution for you. Am on a business trip and won't be home till next 2 days.Play with these setting more, lets go step by step.. I am very interested in the DX18, so lets fix this!

The spektrum Dev Team guys are actively responding to setup issues at the rcgroups thread i posted. I think its worthwhile posting a question there as Andy seems to be helping out with issues. Lets know how you fix it back here on this thread... I will also simulate the problem when I get back home.Hopefully, you might have fixed it by then.

Hi Sunday,
JL viper jet just like a strong heart medicine. It will make the pilots crazy,At least I would think so
Btw,JL viper jet's knife edge flight is very easy to do,look at my flight video below. You can try that too.

William:

Understand valve in turbine but in US, AMA safety requires a manual shut off valve in the system.

Madmodelman:

How do you run out of channels on a DX 18?

Hello,

it is done.
I think, the first Viper is flown in Europe.
It is fun, fun, fun to fly the Viper.
Installed is
JetsMunt VT 100,
Graupner HOTT MC 32
Servos all Graupner DES 707 BBMG

and I removed the 200g led after the third flight.

Power is more than enough.
Flighttime with the fuel is 8-10 minutes.

All settings are used as recomended.
