Top flite spitfire
I found a top flite spitfire kite always love spitfire. I flew my h9 spit for a bit love that one flies great. Now it's time for a top flite one thinking o s 91 for engine.. looking for the cockpit detail kit and thinking what retracts to put in it.. I might not get a chance to fly it. Don't have many good spots to fly what did you guys use in yours?

I am in the process of balancing my Spitfire an of course it is tail heavy.. how did you go about balancing yours and where did you fasten the weights? How much did it take.?

Hello copelab; I balanced the Spitfire IAW the manual recommendation at 4-1/8". It took 154 grams (5-1/2ounces) of lead to achieve 4-1/8" balance point. See attached photo for lead weights attachment location.

Bob, if you install a nitro/glow engine you will be adding up to or more than 16 ounces of lead weight. That was the main reasons I went with the heavier Saito gas engine, less dead weight to achieve 4-1/8" CG.

If you can find a header and muffler that hides inside the cowl that fits the OS 95, that would be great. That was my intention with the Saito 100, to hide the muffler inside the cowl but the cowl was far to narrow to hide the 90 degree header and muffler. Also a lot of dead lead was still required to meet the 4-1/8" CG. So I opted for the Saito FG20, even though the muffler is sticking out of the cowl, I needed far less dead weight to meet the CG.

I stuffed a DLE 20 in mine. Even with that I needed nose weight. It is glasses and painted with latex and flies great at 11.5lbs. She is not a floater but is a blast to fly. It is a rocket with the DLE.

mine has a motor on it. assuming yours is stock I would go 60 route. my reason for saying that is most 75's (if not all) are bored out 60's so if you have a prop that can deliver the extra power to the air you are stuck with a slower rpm (because of the added mass of a bigger cylinder, at the same stroke) motor that burns more fuel.
