RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

Hi Jim, hey, I never did claim I wasn't crazy. I'll let Ken know about the thread. Here are some pics. The B17 belongs to a WWII vet that crewed in a 17 during 1943. Not a good year to fly in one...

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

Hi Richard and Jim. Well the Gee Bee made a couple great flights today. No problems and no drama. But I must confess that I was not on the sticks. A friend made me an offer I couldn't refuse so

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

Richard, I am using a 3W100. The all up weight was 33lbs. for the first flights. The flight performance was very good. A radar gun showed 100mph. The speed looked good in the air, I would say very...

Richard, If you don't have noise issues with your neighbors at the field I say let her rip. More pitch would increase your landing speed too. DWR.

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

Hi guys, Happy New Year. Well I am almost in the mood to make the repairs on the GeeBee. Got the new wing set (ouch!) a while back but just wasn't up for it yet. I hate fixing airplanes so they...

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

Richard, sorry to hear of your problem with the beast but glad to hear you got it back on the ground. I had to put in a ton of up trim on my first flight. Maybe this is due to the 18% chord CG...

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

Richard, sounds like a good fix, and if there is any dome flex (I dont think there will be) the servo will always be moving with the engine. I would still put a tank full through it on the ground. ...

Richard, so glad you dodged those bullets on the ground. I don't even like to think about a GeeBee in the air with no throttle control. Yikes. So maybe next weekend? The pictures are great!

I...

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

Hi guys, I emailed my rep last night about new wings and have not heard back yet. There are a few fixes to make on the fuse but no big deal. The cake frosting let go around one wing root but the...

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

Bad news. The first flight went well, no problems. On take off on the second flight I was thinking how nice it tracks and climbs out when the engine quit. Crap. I was already 90 degrees to the left...

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

Jim, come to think of it there is likely some variation in dihedral due to the who is measuring and the calibration of the tool. That could easily account for plus or minus half a degree. DWR

Hotrod, thankx for that. Sounds like 123cc will be plenty. What will it weigh? And hey, winter project? I didn't think Texas was up north? DWR.

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

Jim, I checked mine with an incidence meter after I had tuned the flying wires and got 3 1/2 degrees. I think the number could vary 1 degree due to flying wire set up. Most important is to get both...

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

Hi Jim, we are lucky and have very long fields at near 90 degrees to each other. Mostly cow pastures next to us. No trees close to approaches unless we really swing way out wide. It is about as...

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

Hi Richard, The elevator trim was up and it took a bunch, like a dozen clicks. I did do a lot of full throttle flying and the plane is VERY stable. I flys very much like the GP GB only smoother.
