RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

Hi Jimmy
This is just my 2cents of personal opinion. If I ever have another go at Gee Bee I definitely wouldn't use pipes again I would try to keep the plane as light as I could and probably use...

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

I flew mine with DA150 on full pipes with 28x14 only once, which was a fatal flight. The 3 successful flights before that I used Xoar 30x12 and it was managable. I don't think anyone would try 3...

Hey Hannes, fantastic flights!! Both of them on the video. Looks like you got the right feel for it and a good set up.:D
Just one question. I have noticed in the first flight that when you did the...

I know this might be a bit late to react on this post but be very careful and please don't buy anything from this web site. The guy is a con and a thief. I decided to bite the bullet and sent him the...

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

Wow, 170 on pipes. I'm using MTW R3's. It's too early to tell if I like it 'cos the engine is still very new and so far I seemed to struggle to get smooth throttle transition. Don't get me wrong, the...

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

Fortunately this time there was only a couple more people apart from me, so not many armchair pilots. It really sounds awesome but somewhat with Xoar 30x12 it screams very loud and I can't continue...

Flight report No 2!!
Well, that didn't go well. After stuffing around with engine on the ground finally decided to go for it. Must admit the weather wasn't great. Very windy and gusty, probably not...

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

I love that pic. Gee Bee has an incredible appeal to me and timeless look. I noticed that too you have your carby shielded from direct airflow. Something I have to deal with right now. Also I read in...

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

Thanks Richard
Now I understand what you guys have been talking about in previous posts. Yeah, the engine is brand new, which probably doesn't help much but hopefully screening the hole in carby...

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

I just read some of the old posts and Dirtydingus... you had a same problem earlier when your plane was turning to the right. You said in the post later, you took the spinner off and it flew great.

Thanks Richard, I'll try my best to keep her in one piece:D.
It's amazing, I'm looking at this big fat monster with such a small surface deflections. Is your elevator, rudder and ailerons set as...

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

Well guys, she is ready to go. I couldn't maiden her this weekend because of work commitments, plus I want to crack the engine for maybe a full tank on the field, double check all controls and try to...

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

Nice video Richard,
The sound from that engine is awesome. Nice landing too. It looks like completely different plane in handling compare to CompArf Gee Bee even if I hadn't flown one yet.

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

Tuned pipes increase performance of the engine...more RPM equals more speed. Ha ha not that I need more speed, particularly on first few flights. Don't know really. You asked tough question. The...

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

Here are few pics. You can see holes I made in the back of the fuse to make tail as light as possible. Ended up making my own tray, which could be elevated a little bit higher to clear the pipes and...

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

Thanks for the tip guys, I might as well use what's proven to be right. Just this fairing came in two separate sides. I think you could easily glue the front together and tape the rear. What do you...

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

My goodness, that's one scary looking video.[X(]That abrupt turn up high, where it ended up nose diving ...brrrr.. I thought that was the end of it. The plane was no doubt untrimmed. Looks like his...

Richard
How's your Gee Bee going? You must have a few flights under your belt? Is there anything you would change, if you started building it again? Sometimes I wish there was a better adjustment...

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

Yeah finally got it about 3 weeks ago. It was a long wait but you shouldn't wait as long as I did. I think they finally sorted their problems with the mob in Germany that makes UC for them. I'm doing...

RE: Composite-Arf 33% Gee Bee R2 - First Flight - Pics - Videos - L@@K

That's good to know, 'cos I'm about to glue them hinges permanently as well. I figured that most of my gear will be far forward anyway. Just put the semi-assembled plane on my homemade balancer minus...
