Carl,

the futaba statement that you quote fits exactly with my heli gyro experience. I hasten to add that I have never fitted a gyro to any of my aircraft so i have no first hand experience...

If you are using a 401 then I suspect you are in rate mode. If in AVCS (heading hold) then the gyro would be trying to hold the heading it was on. This would mean that rudder input would be required...
