Default Trouble Locating Replacement Spinners

Model: https://www.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?I=LXETVD&P=ML
Engine: https://www.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?I=LXRPD2&P=ML

I'm having trouble locating a replacement spinner cone for my model. I don't want a spinner nut because that isn't what is supposed to be on this model. I'm curious when you guys need to replace a spinner cone, and not just anything will do. Where do you buy them from?

I have an ARF model that requires me to use a red 2 1/4 inch spinner. Of course the one they gave me is plastic. My starter burned a groove into the nose. A cold .75 OS Engine ABL engine turns over hard. The spinner needs to be completely flat on the back plate. Otherwise it will rub on the cowling. The Cowlings location can not be changed. The engine mount can not be changed. Changing either one of these things would make a mess of the cowling. Otherwise I would just buy a dubro spinner as a replacement. I'd be willing to switch to an aluminum nose cone if I could find one with a completely flat in the back. I never owned an aluminum one which is part of the reason why I'm asking about this. A flat back plate is key for proper spacing.

In the pictures I'm showing an extra spinner cone from a former Airplane. The one that is really damaged my dad put epoxy on it. He wants to experiment. That is the 4th picture.

The difference between the back plate I need and Dubro's back plate.

The manufacture is a little iffy. Because you got to go here Spinner ( Plastic Plate ) | Accessories | Phoenixmodel.com | Phoenixmodel | Aircraft model Manufacturer but buy from here: https://zigirc.com/ Back in 2018 did this research and they told me that plastic spinner cone will be 20 dollars and I must use paypal.

Here is a list of websites that I found that have spinners. I'm providing you these links so that you can see I've been doing some research.

The Great Planes GPMQ4766 is plastic red spinner and a completely flush aluminum backplate and is available from Graves RC. Their website was one that you listed.
Just a word of advice, do NOT run your engine with the repaired spinner !
Good luck

There is no plastic spinner that holds up well to a starter. Your best bet is to invest in a True Turn or Vortec aluminum spinner. You will also get the benifit of less vibration as well.

I order direct from Tru Turn. Tell them what engine you have, prop size you are running and they will set you up with the right spinner and adapter. If you really want a red spinner they can sell you one anodized in red.

I was hoping that you would give me their website. One has got to be careful with internet searches. But you got to choose to trust someone....

Is this the correct one?
truturn.com
https://www.truturn.com/

Or is it this one?
tru-turn.net
Products - Tru Turn Spinners

Or is it this one?
https://www.centralhobbies.com/cat3....t=13&subcat=88

Or is it this one?
https://www.chiefaircraft.com/radio-.../tru-turn.html

Or this one?
https://www.propshophobbies.com/sear...show=90&page=1

I've only come to trust, Amazon and Towerhobbies for Modelling Equipment. I know that there are others out there but if I'm not careful I might come across a phishing website.

truturn.com is legit. So are Central Hobbies and Chief Aircraft. Your best bet is to call Truturn. They are very knowledgeable, helpful, and will get you fixed up with exactly what you need. The first picture is the nasty white plastic spinners that were on a Twin Otter I got in a trade. First thing I did was replace them with the TruTurns in the second picture. Besides the improvement in fit and appearance, these are ultra smooth and vibration free. Best spinners on the market.

It seems that the consensuses is that aluminium spinners are the best. I do need to say that the spinner on my Zlin 526 is a great planes plastic spinner and it's 10 years old. It is scuffed up because sometimes the starter slipped on it too. It seems that the spinner on the Ryan is worse because it's very pointy. I'm pretty sure that if I switch to an aluminium spinner I will need to rebalance the model - Add more weight in the tail.

The aluminum spinner is not all that much heavier but yes it could affect your CG. What flight tests have you done so far in order to optimize the CG location?

Honestly I've been flying for 24 years. I have never done a flight test for CG. I follow the instructions, and set it there. This model can not afford to have more nose weight without adding more weight in the tail. Already I can not taxi it on the ground without extremely high rate on the elevator. Once I take off, I can switch back to normal low rate for the rest of the flight.
