I am depending on the felt clunk that I have in the tank to filter the fuel but I definitely should have a filter up by the carburetor also - which I don't.

It's running well enough at the moment...

I suspect the carb but I know BUPKISS about this weird Saito "pumper" carb and I'm not really looking forward to breaking it open. Unless it gets worse I'm going to live...

I, personally, would not run this engine with the stock timing hub. As for the backplate mod - I have no experience with that. I think I will go research that now.

Thanks for your input, Hector. Have you ever found loose cylinder screws? If so how many times?

I have noticed that the valve train seems to run VERY dry in these engines.

I never had any doubts that this engine would keep running. It was at that time still very reliable even though it would drop cylinders and sputter a little in aerobatics - but only in reduced power...

I just HAD to post what happened today. I only stumbled on this thread a week or two ago and something amazing came of it.

I’ve been flying a phoenix Waco with a Saito FG 60 for a couple months...
