your right, slim was a bad choice, its just a black residue that wipes up easy at the end of the day. 40:1 is the ratio, I've read some testing 50:1, but I'm fine with the 40:1

Same here, I run a TruTurn on mine, just get the correct adapter to fit the shaft and you should be good to go. TruTurn Adapter has a prop nut and a secondary jam nut. works great.
