Has anyone else noticed that they come in two different size boxes? I wonder why?

I have 4, they all have the same size box. Are the clear plastic forms that hold the parts different in some way? That's weird ---

Crius -----
I have thought long and hard about why one box is smaller than the other and I think I have solved the mystery. The smaller box was left out on the loading dock during a severe rain storm and got soaking wet. On the way to the USA it dried out and shrank down to 18th scale, along with that battery.
I would like to explain this phenomenon in more detail, but my nurse says it's time to take my medications and lay down for my quiet time.

Are these for real? i have been waiting for years for a decent truck model to come out. i have plenty of scale artillery pieces that need a tractor truck to pull them as well as support vehicles.

Where did you get the lenses, Greg? I got mine from an old 34 Ford kit, but it would be great to find a way to buy just lenses, or maybe the correct sprue from a kit with lenses attached?

They look good, and the yellow is a nice effect. Did you use warm white or yellow LEDs or did you color the lenses? I've been looking for a warm white in 5mm LED but they're hard to find in 5v with the integral resistor. So far I can only find those in white red and green.

Oh yeah, I like the spare tire. I'm thinking about a spare tire on the tailgate and also a jerry can, kinda like the set-up on a jeep. Waddaya think?

You and me both, Bro. I already bought three (well, I bought four but a friend talked me out of one) and I plan to get at least two more. The possibilities are endless! I can't wait for the 6x6 to come out!

Maybe now these manufacturers will realize that there is a huge market for 1/16 soft skinned vehicles!!

Oh, I think the market could go beyond the addition of just soft-sided vehicles in general....imaged if Tamiya were to ever upscale the Famo to a 1/16trh scale kit......I would be all over that in a heart-beat......even if it cost around the same money as one of their RC tanks - i would still like it - especially if the Famo had a FLAK 88 and rolling carriage......

.....then we would also have to have some 1/16 support crew figures as well........

Sometimes there is a need to replace military headlamp covers with a "glass" lens. Here a lens was created for a 1/35 Vulcan Zundapp K800 motorcycle.

Start with a scrap of clear sprue. Clean up the end with a file and sandpaper.

Heat end over flame, being careful not to scorch the plastic

Quickly press the heated end onto a row of staples. Make sure to hold the sprue perpendicular to the staples.

While attached to the sprue, file and sand the edge to the correct diameter. Can be placed in a drill and rotated to get a good result.

emove the lens from the sprue with a razor saw.

File the rough edge (opposite the imprinted pattern) to the desired thickness.

Clean the file marks with fine sandpaper (1000 grit). Bevel the edge for a more rounded lens profile.

Polish with compound - e.g. Novus No. 2. Finished!

That's a pretty good idea that I might have to try, since I have more trucks than I do old model kits.

I was going to just sand down some tammy 1/14 lenses, but this way is much cooler!

And they also have light buckets if you want to add turn signals or change to functional tail lights.

Hi, guys. I've found some lenses that I like for the truck that are just the right size and shape. They're made by Axial and come in a tree with several size and color lenses and are relatively inexpensive. I've attached some pics of the truck with the lenses installed. I've painted my truck my favorite color - olive drab - and changed the grill. In addition, I've painted the interior and installed glass front and back.

I've also found some warm white led's and installed them. The color is much more appropriate for an old truck. I've attached some pics that compare the led's. They are very inexpensive when bought in quantity.

Great find on the LEDs, Bob. And your grill looks fantastic.
